Waterway and oyster huts of La Baudissière

Oyster Huts

Oyster Huts

Take a journey on the Oyster Route to explore the oyster farming site of La Baudissière and the charming Oyster Huts ! Thanks to the efforts of Dolus-d'Oléron municipality and dedicated volunteers, a collection of vibrant and authentic huts has revitalized the La Baudissière channel. The aim is to preserve the essence of traditional oyster farming by restoring these iconic huts.

Artists' Workshops in Oléron

While some huts are still used for oyster farming,, others have been transformed into artists' studios. These small oyster shelters were gradually abandoned as they no longer met the current regulations and because there were fewer and fewer Marennes-Oléron oyster producers. It would be a shame to miss out on stopping at La Baudissière and immersing yourself in this laid-back atmosphere, enjoying a natural space shaped by human hands that radiates calmness and serenity. It's truly a unique opportunity to admire the local wildlife and plants. You'll see a variety of birds !

Vacationer's Testimonial :

I absolutely loved walking among the oyster huts. It was such a special experience that let me explore and truly appreciate the local oyster farming.
The genuine and charming atmosphere had me completely captivated. The vibrant wooden huts, the fishing nets drying in the sun, and the refreshing smell of the sea created a captivating coastal vibe that I couldn't get enough of.

I absolutely adored eating fresh oysters! It was such a delightful treat for my taste buds. What's more, I got to enjoy the incredible beauty of the landscapes around me. The salt marshes, sandy dunes, and shimmering bodies of water created a stunning and calming view. I took advantage of these moments to snap some breathtaking photos, capturing the enchantment of the moment.

That's why I can honestly say that I left this experience feeling enriched, with a deeper understanding of oyster farming. The oyster huts of Oléron are truly a hidden gem, a living testament to the unbreakable connection between humans and the sea.

If you get the opportunity to visit Oléron, I highly recommend exploring the oyster huts. It's an incredible experience that will let you uncover the time-honored expertise of oyster farmers, indulge in exceptional oysters, and completely immerse yourself in the beauty and enchantment of this marvelous island.
